Daily Rituals: The Only Way to Get Important Things Done

May 25th, 2011

Daily Habits

“Civilization advances by extending the number of operations we can perform without thinking about them.” ~ A.N. Whitehead

These days we are all overloaded with work and everyday we wonder just how to get over this workload. We get hundreds of mails, people messaging us every 10 min, reports we have to generate, projects we have to finish. There is no way we are going to be able to finish all this at the end of the day and feel that we are done for the day. There will always be something remaining.

But then we see that there is a minority of super achievers who in spite of this information overload get projects done, enjoy their lives outside work, pursue interesting hobbies.

How do they do it? What have they figured out that the rest of us have not?

What they have figured out is to make tasks automatic, that way they consume less energy.

They have built daily rituals that with repetition have become automatic and don’t consume their self-discipline energy.

Here are some things that I feel we can make automatic will make the biggest difference in our lives.

  • Start getting up 1 hour early everyday
  • Work out as soon as you wake up
  • At work immediately start working on the most important task of the day, don’t brows or check emails. After one hour of work you can take a 10 min. break.
  • Everyday before bed read something for 30 min.

Once you have a ritual in place you will notice that you don’t have to think about it, it’ll just be automatic and you will do it without much thought.

Improve Your Life 30 Days at a Time

May 20th, 2011

“It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.” ~ Old Chinese Proverb

Following the same daily routine day in and day out is so boring. Here in this video fellow Googler Matt Cutts shows us how doing just one small thing for the next 30 days can make such a difference in our lives.

Here are some examples of things you can try out for 30 days

  • Take a photo everyday
  • Write every day
  • Dont watch TV
  • Wake up early
  • Brush every night
  • Meditate everyday
  • Write a blog post
  • Tweet every day
  • Draw every day
  • Be thankful for one thing
  • Spend as little money as you can
  • Read every day

And remember it’s just for 30 days, if you don’t like after that you can always stop.

What are some of the things you would like to try for 30 days? let us know in the comments below.
